DUANE SUPPORTS:
* Abolishing the wasteful and inefficient for-profit private health insurance industry and replacing it with a single-payer “Medicare-for-all” type health care system.
* An immediate withdrawal of all U.S. military troops, mercenary forces, and private contractors from Iraq and Afghanistan and call for an end to airstrikes in Pakistan and Yemen.
* Tuition-free education at public colleges, universities, and technical trade schools for every person in the United States who meets basic academic requirements.
* The repeal of all federal laws on the books which make it a criminal act for people to grow, distribute, and use marijuana and hemp for medicinal, recreational, and industrial purposes.
* Stopping the construction of highly dangerous and expensive nuclear power plants in favor of further developing and expanding cheap, safe, and renewable sources of energy such as solar power.
* A green jobs program putting millions of unemployed back to work at union wages rehabilitating or building affordable housing, schools, libraries, community centers, hospitals, parks, and other socially useful projects.
* Increasing the federal minimum wage to $12 an hour, repealing the Taft-Hartley act, and favors legislation that will make it easier for workers to organize trade unions.
* Ending all U.S. military and economic aid to the state of Israel and the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people, including the right of refugees to return.
* The right of undocumented workers to obtain housing, education, healthcare, jobs, and civil, legal, and political rights and call for an amnesty program for all those who have established residency.
* The legal recognition of same-sex marriage and the outlawing of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in housing, employment, benefits, and child custody.
* Increasing the amount of federal money spent on buses, light rail, and commuter trains to reduce America’s dependency on fossil fuels and curb the impact of global warming.
* The criminal prosecution of executives in the banking, finance, and insurance industries who profited from the subprime lending crisis and have caused hundreds of thousands of people to lose their homes.
* An immediate moratorium on all foreclosures and evictions of homeowners and tenants who are unable to make monthly payments on their mortgages or rents due to economic hardship.
* Full reproductive rights for women, including the right of women to obtain free, safe, and legal abortions on demand and access to free or low cost childcare.
* Ending billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies going to big agribusiness consortiums to boost ethanol, an ecologically wasteful and unsustainable source of fuel.
* An end to offshore oil drilling and a moratorium on coastal development that threatens wetlands and estuaries that are home to migratory waterfowl, fish, and other marine life.
* Mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods and food ingredients.
* Stopping the genetic engineering of plants and other living organisms we consume because of the unforeseen impact it might have upon the health of human beings and our eco-system.
* Ending all new prison construction in favor of community-based correctional programs, repealing California’s “Three Strikes” law, and abolishing the death penalty.
